Sarah Palin and Tina Fey: Twins on SNL

Here are the clips of Gov. Sarah Palin's appearance on SNL! I think she handled her job nicely, considering that she had been made fun of on the show for weeks. Apparently, the rapping portion was originally supposed to be for Palin, but she refused and Amy Poehler took her place. It was odd watching Sarah Palin dancing and bobbing her head to rap music, but hey, at least she wasn't the one rapping. That would have been very odd and just more material for the media to replay over and over. Overall, this was another funny and entertaining SNL.

I completely agree, Moeka, that was so awkward watching her bop her head. And oh dear, did I just see her "raising the roof"?!

I think this is one last attempt to get youth voters on the Republican side. Although I think she's a good sport to go on the show and laugh at herself, she really didn't play that big of a part at all. She didn't truly laugh at herself by doing the rap herself. But hey, maybe that's too much to ask.

It was entertaining though!

I actually am glad that Palin decided to go on SNL. She went onto an extremely liberal show and was surprisingly entertaining. I think it takes courage and a sense of humor to laugh at yourself when you're on the national stage. I think the decision to appear on SNL will not only help the republican party, but i think it will improve Palin's reputation. As a young person I valued her efforts to appear relateable to the youth. I also think she somewhat accomplished that goal.

I agree with Kate, this was an attempt by the Republican Party to redeem Sarah Palin and get the votes back that they might of lost from her bad interviews. Even though Sarah Palin did not play a big part, she shouldn't of because she is not an actor. So, i thought it was a little big deal that they incorporated her that much into the show even if it was only a couple of lines. After watching SNL I gained a new respect for her because it takes a lot, in my opinion, to go on a show that has made fun of you for weeks and make fun of yourself. I don't think that she got that many votes by going on SNL, but i think it gave people a new respect for her that they might have lost. I also thought her appearance on SNL may allow her to connect more with the American people.

I don't think Sarah Palin was suppose to do the rap in the first place...I think the skit was the fact that she did not do the rap, so amy poehler had to do it for her. I mean can you guys see Sarah Palin rapping? That would just be the kind of embarrassing moment when you change the channel just to escape it.

HAHAHAHAHA OH my god, when they SHOT THE MOOSE I swear I was dying for a while :D

But anyways... I think it was a good idea for Palin to go on SNL... very brave too, especially considering all the material that the show has done on her. I think this will show the public her better side? But deciding not to do the rap herself probably wasn't the best choice... or maybe it was. By not doing the rap, I think it kind of cancels out the message she is trying to send by appearing on SNL in the first place. But if she had done the rap, I think it would have only gone on to strengthen her "unprofessional" image (like her shout out to the kids in Alaska during her debate...)

I think this was a good move on Palin's part. there have been a lot of negative media attention towards Palin, and for her to turn that into something funny, that people will feel empathy towards her for. I think that was a great move, and i laughed histarically, and its been everywhere, news, radio, internet, so im not going to lie... if i wasn't still convinced that she would make the second worst president ever (noone will dethrone Bush), i might be on her side. I can't seem to picture Obama realaxing and throwing his hands up quite like Palin. Which unfortunatly could be to his detriment. One of the reasons Bush ever got elected, was that people could picture themselves hanging out and having a beer with Bush, while Gore wasn't quite as personable. It could be that because Obama isn't quite as realaxed and silly as say, the Palin-McCain combo. We'll see.

I'm pretty sure, just like Ana said, that Palin wasn't supposed to do the rap-or actually that the SNL producers weren't really expecting her to do it anyway. It was the best idea for Palin to reject the rap anyway though. I'm glad Amy Poehler took over because she did a great job; she was hilarious.

Aimee brings up a good point that this SNL appearance revealed a likable side of Palin's personality. Just watching these clips, I see a happy and lighthearted side of her that could have potentially appealed to many voters as well as more of the young voters. Yet, her views and policies have made many doubt her abilities to be VP or even president and thus instead, Obama's attitude has been generally taken more widely as the "cool."

hahahhaa. hahhaa. I think that this was a very good part on Palin's part. In almost all of the SNL skits on this year's presidential race, Palin has been made fun of in some way. For Palin to have the guts to show up in front of the SNL cast as well as a majority of the SNL viewers that think poorly of her was quite a respectable move. She showed that she too has a sense of humor, and will continue appealing to those people who view her as a kind-hearted mother-figure. However, this skit will not change the minds of the people who never liked her in the first place. So this SNL skit may serve as another outlet to make fun of her or even call her appearance desperate.
And I must admit, her head-bopping was quite the site.

I think Palin is crafty. She's so ridiculous, that I'm pretty sure she knows that she's being ridiculous. Maybe she's trying to appeal to voters by being somebody that the American people can relate to: some kind of live comedy show. Although it's not helping the campaign, to be honest I would want to meet her, just like I'd want to meet Quayle.

I don't think being on SNL will help the campaign... it'll just give people more of what they want.

Haha wow what can be better than seeing a vice president candidate "raise the roof". I think Palin deciding to take part in SNL is groundbreaking. It was a good way to let off some stress from the campaign and have a good laugh. I am very glad she did not do the rap as well because that would have been awkward. It would have hurt the campaign as well because it would just be another reason to criticize the rookie candidate. I agree with Laura on how she was trying to relate to the youth but I am not sure how effective that will be because I personally never watch SNL unless someone really out of the ordinary goes on the show like Michael Phelps after he returned from Beijing. Although she only did speak a few times during the show I think it was a great effort in the Republican campaign for support. I thought it was hilarious when Tina Fey said California was not Pro-American because Obama will win this state. Awesome haha. I hope in the future to see more appearences such as Palins. It was enjoyable and can not possibly hurt her and McCain's campaign.

Hahahaha. Oh dear. I think that was definitely one of the most entertaining videos I've seen in awhile. I really admire Palin's decision to go on SNL. She was a really good sport to go on a show that constantly makes fun of her. I also agree with Laura when she said Palin was trying to get youth support. I am not sure how much that worked seeing as though every young person I know is strongly pro-Obama, but I think it was definitely a good attempt at helping the image of her and McCain's campaign. I have a lot more respect for Palin after watching the videos. It was a good idea to confront the criticism head on by taking part in the fun. Her attitude on the show is appealing, because it helps balance the image of the older, less "hip" image of McCain. I also don't think she ever intended on doing the rap, because I think it could have hurt her somewhat by giving off the wrong impression. She still needs to act professional, and i think the dancing and "raising the roof" as Kenny put it is enough. Rapping may have crossed the line a tad. Overall though, I think it was a good idea for Palin to go on SNL.

I feel like crying. Did I really just see a potential (it pains me to type this word) vice president participate in part of a silly rap and bop he head????!!?!?!?! If her policies and knowledge of politics would be even a bit better or even just a bit more credible, it would totally be cool to see her on SNL doing the skits and showing her "down to earth"ness. But with her now countless political errors, i just don't see this as a good move because she doesn't need regular american points now, she needs Leadership and "Actually knows something about Politics" points.

The only reedemable quality to this skit was that it was sooooo hilarious i didn't know whether i should have Laughed Out Loud or Screamed in Terror.

also, adding to my previous post, her head bopping and appearance on SNL just goes on to further show her "down to earth-ness" like George said, and its clear that the party is trying to sell her as "just like the average American" who can understand what the people want. While she may be more like the average American, Palin just goes on to reinforce my belief that it would be a very bad day when an Average American becomes our president. We need above average leaders, especially considering the economic crisis we are facing right now....

I think that it's great that Palin decided to go on SNL even though she's been made fun of constantly on the show. It's probably not going to cause a lot of people to change their opinions about her, but it was still a good decision to go on.
