For many Americans this economic downturn has meant utter devastation in their lives. Production is slowing forcing companies to lay-off workers and hardly anyone is pending a penny for their wallets are running dry. We are surrounded by negative media saying "this is the worst economic depression since the great depression", and some economists are saying that it will never end. Is there a sunlight at the end of the dark tunnel? Will we ever get out? We have been constantly running these questions through our minds. But, unlike many who have accepted failure and death, Ben Bernank has an answer. As head of the U.S. Central Bank he says that the tunnel is not much longer and that there will be an end to this crisis in the up and coming year. He says that there have been potential financial meltdowns before the government acted. There is only one questions that remains. Is he right?

Well, as the government, it is his job to fix the recession and the one of the most important things to do is to boost the morale of the people so I don't think this should be taken too seriously I don't think it is going to end anytime soon
I think that the recession will end, the question is really when will it end? As we are all aware, the economy is cyclical with recessions or depressions followed by periods of economic growth. From what I've heard, this recession will likely last until at least 2010, but could be as long as the beginning of 2011. In either case, the job market could recover by the time we're supposed to graduate from college, but maybe not? That's a scary prospect.
Lauren C. Strojny- I really did believe that in next year; after Obama had some time to work with the problems our country is enduring that he would be able to pull us out of this depression. Recently in the paper their has been disputes that have made me question where our money is going though.
The government is trying to help out failing businesses with Obama's bailout plan,BUT.. AIG still in a hole instead of using that money to help the industry it gave away billions of dollars in bonuses. How can this possibly be a sign of recovery and really made me question whether or not we can really make it out of this recession in the next year.
The recession will end eventually it is just a question when it will end, what companies will be left standing, and how much money will be spent. It seems to me that though there is comparatively little private capitol being invested at this point (compared to previous years,)eventually investor confidence will reappear and once consumers feel safe in their ability to spend without worrying about their future companies will again turn profits and the economy will be back on track. When will this happen? I do not think anyone can really know for certain at this point.
Its really hard to tell at this point if we will ever suceed this recession becasue it seems to be getting worse before it gets better. Rumor has it that by the time everyone graduates from college, the job market will become alot better but your rite how can we tell? I think after a while there is so much you can do about it is just one of those things where it has to sort itself out. The economy always has its ups and downs. Obama has so much on his plate that it seems like everything plays a factor in part of our depressed economy so its better to stress about something else because we will be stressing for a long time before this is over with.
It is rare for me to say something like this but, I have complete faith in Obama and his cabinet to pull us out of this economic crisis. I don't think that we have much to worry about by the time we exit college. For those going to school for four or more years, the job market will get better by then. Four years is a long, long time and as long as Obama and his cabinet make the right moves, we should be fine.
Of course, nobody can really be 100% positive that things will get better in time. One can only live life, day by day, helping out however one can, until we get pulled out of the ditch.
