California tourism expected to rise 3% this year

Good news for California's damaged economy, the state's Travel and Tourism commission predicted a 3% rise in tourism for 2010. This will be about a 5% rise over 2009. This means that about $92 million will we spent on food, lodging, and other expenses.

According to Commission head Caroline Beteta, there is greater consumer confidence in the economy and therefore traveling will continue on an upward rise. This data is based on a survey conducted by a Pennsylvania company's analysis of national economic data, unemployment rates and other factors.

Many of the tourists are expected to some from South Korea, China and Australia.

I think this is very good news. Hopefully the tourism will continue on an upward slope. I believe the state of California should also do everything it can to invest in tourism so there will be more incentive for more people to come. In LA, for example, I think the city should try and do something about all the homeless. This process will take time and money but it will do a lot of good in the long run.

Thats good news hopefully it will keep on rising to improve our economy! Good point California should do something like that so it will attract more tourism so it could better the economy.

I definitely agree that California should do more to make California more attractive to tourists, but I don't necessarily think fixing the homeless situation is too relevant. Of course that's a big issue, especially in places like L.A., but I think in regards to tourism California should invest more in advertising the state's attractions. But California should not rely on tourism alone to help the economy, for it will only bring in a small amount of money (in relation to the state deficit), but investing in tourism is a good start.

Tourism is a good way to get money fueling into the state. This is also a good step towards boosting the economy.

This reminds me of the situation concerning UC's, where the schools plan to accept more people from out of state. I think as a nation of various ethnicites and cultures, having tourists and visitors in California is an edifying way to celebrate differences.

That is really exciting news. Lately in the news I have been reading small little occurrences that cause people to say that the economy slowly is getting better. I honestly believe that this idea is true. Recently I have also been seeing many toursim advertisements and commercials for California. There is a commercial where they compare California to a hard day at work, but in reality it is a very enjoyable work. If I was a foreigner I would actually be pretty swayed by commercials such as these. This one in particular had celebrities which always helps.

This is great news about California. I agree with you, Katie, I think Los Angeles should do something about the abundant homeless that are on the streets, as well as in San Francisco. I think major cities should do something to improve the bad neighborhoods that surround the areas and it'll increase even more tourism.
