Final Evil Gasp Of Bush

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/24991066/bushs_final_fu

With Bush leaving office, it appears he is hastening to screw the country over in various ways. I was hoping that he was going to try and leave a positive mark in the end however, he is attempting to ruin the country with some last-minute regulations. Bush intends (or has done):
  • make it so that government scientists will not have to assess the impact on imperiled species before allowing logging, mining, drilling, highway building or other development and worse, prohibit federal agencies from taking climate change into account when weighing the impact of projects that increase greenhouse emissions
  • "In early December, the administration finalized a rule that allows the industry to dump waste from mountaintop mining into neighboring streams and valleys, a practice opposed by the governors of both Tennessee and Kentucky"
  • "has opened up nearly 2 million acres of mountainous lands in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming for the mining of oil shale — an energy-intensive process that also drains precious water resources"
  • Allow "Circumventing the Clean Water Act, the administration has approved last-minute regulations that will allow animal waste from factory farms to seep, unmonitored, into America's waterways"

Anyway, there is a crapload of stuff (not listed here) that this man is doing to turn this nation into haven for business owners. He is ruining the environment, the poor, and AAARRGGG! This man is a natural disaster all by himself and I don't know but it seems like he is TRYING to be the worse president in the world. He is trying to make it some sort of utopia for businesses while the poor are forced to work in dangerous hostile environment. I mean, i can't even believe what he is doing I mean, never mind the recession, let's destroy the environment and make it hell for Obama. It could take freaking years to fix all this junk and I don't even know if Obama will have the time but it really is sad to see some much be destroyed in so little time.

When was the last time you looked at government grants? With the bailout, there is more money than ever. Don't miss out.

Um, please restrain the profanity, Thanks.

Your opinions and leads may have a point and issue, but i think you may want to have moe reliable resources or recheck your sources, becuase I believe you need some sort of facts or articles to backup your statements. And yes the Bush "Last minute regulations" have been some sort of an uproar due to his limited time in the office. He does attempt to make some severe changes before he leaves his position for Obama.

i think those last minute regulations won't have a positive impact on Bush's presidency because it seems as though all of them affect the environment in the negative manner. i don't think he should be doing this.

Way Biased.

It's not like he's really screwing the country over. It's just some Republican policy.

As for the link. Eh... Anybody who titles their article "Bush's Final F.U." instantly makes me doubt any sort of arguments they might have...

There's no way he is trying to be the worst president in the world...Can't say I like his policy, but really... I think he's unlucky. Simply Unlucky. All these disasters and horrible events like 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina are forces that no one man can control.

I researched about this and apparently, it is true that the Bush administration is trying to enact these policies. This sort of reinforces the idea that presidents do many things in the final moments of their presidency in order to leave a good impression--oh wait, in this case, a bad impression.." 'This is Bush trying to leave a legacy that supports his ideology' "..(aka his very unpopular and bad ideology-for the environment at least) I was actually somewhat happy to hear about the ocean and marine life protection earlier this week, but what is this?! These policies he has proposed are really dangerous. Just to make it worse, I'll list another thing I found..

"Announcements of further rule changes are expected...including one that would weaken regulation of perchlorate, a toxin in rocket fuel that can affect brain development in children, in drinking water."

Oh wait, there's more.

"Pollution controls on new power plants will be downgraded."

"2m acres of land in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado opened to development of oil shales, the dirtiest fuel on Earth."

Environmental action can't be done and then stopped for a while because once we let the environmentally harmful ways thrive, it is extremely difficult to turn back. The supporters of these new policies say environmental action costs to much, but we're going to eventually have to deal with the environmental problems no matter what. Trying to fix up the mess afterward is going to cost much more money and time than if we were to have continued environmental action in the first place. Plus, the damage already made will have a lasting effect and it could be too late to being back some things, such as extinct species.

The list of environmental policies that Bush is trying to implement are just harmful and probably some of the most environmentally dangerous things that could take place--all happening at the same time. (very harmful runoff, pollution, wildlife destruction...ugh) I hope the opposers will find a way to overturn these rules before they actually are put into action.

Unlucky perhaps, but then again, hurrican katrina wasn't exactly some sudden random attack that appeared out of no where. There was quite a bit of advanced warning and again, you also have to remember about how poorly Brown (who was totally inexperienced) managed it. Furthermore, the government was not complely unaware of possible terrorist attacks so yeah, it may have been bad luck, but you can't exactly say he had no control over anything

But Bush? Could Bush himself have done very much? Blame the government, sure. Blame Bush... feels a bit harsh. He definitely could have handled it better, but would any other past president have fared any better?

Could Bush have been aware of New Orleans' levee system was going to fail so catastrophically? No way. We as a nation are putting a bit too much blame on Bush as an individual when any blame would more adequately fit the government as a whole. Maybe we just need a face to hate... As for Brown... yeah I agree. Not the best job. But he'd be a better candidate to blame over Bush, in my opinion.

As for the 9/11 attacks... So we were aware of possible terrorist attacks. How many terrorist attack threats are issued to the U.S. each and every day? Probably a ton. But could our government have predicted that an attack on New York would result from planes that took off in California? Our nation is huge. And assuming that we found out before they hit but after they took off... How do you stop a plane? Would the government have shot down planes full of innocent passengers? It's an ethical dilemma that would bring harsh criticism either way.

As for the new Acts / laws Bush is trying to pass... well that sucks. Our world's condition is steadily declining...and this definitely won't help.
But Obama, with a Democratic majority in congress, shouldn't have too much trouble taking them down. Hopefully...

It's all politics. With power shifting to the Democrats for the time being, the Republicans must look to 2012 to regain control over the presidency. To do that, they'll have to ensure that Obama doesn't win everyone over during his presidency so that... Sarah Palin I suppose... can have a fighting chance in the next elections. I agree with earlier sentiments that this post was written with extreme bias, it's Republican policy, which is definitely not the end of the world.

I'll admit that I never followed the last regulations presidents impelement as their term comes to an end, but this seems pretty normal. Despite Bush's efforts, it probably won't take Obama all that long to clear through it anyways.

In reaction to what Jeff said i would have to disagree with the statement that Bush being unlucky accounts for, and makes up for his actions. It will be very interesting however to see how Obama fights these regulations once he takes office, especially the environmental regulations which will be very damaging.

Regretfully, a lot of the decisions Bush is making can't be reversed that easily, as they involve contracts for tearing up protected environment (how horrible).

But on another note, he is responsible for Katrina because he appointed Michael Brown as the director of FEMA. Brown's previous experience: he ran rodeos. Now I'm not sure what "emergency management" is involved in rodeos besides perhaps the occasional horse that kicks someone, but I kind of doubt that he had any experience in what he was doing. Appointing someone that incompetent to such an enormously important post was irresponsible and unethical on Bush's part.

I'm not sure that Bush is trying to screw us over, although I would like badly to believe that--it would give us a scapegoat for all the problems of the nation. You have to realize two things: (1)Bush is not that smart, and (2) Bush cannot pass any laws without Congress, which is also owned by the Republicans. I think Congress had more to do with it than Bush did. Who's to say the Republicans aren't being payed to make these laws?
