Tell 'em the Good Stuff

President Bush only has 38 days left in office, and though he could be writing executive orders and messing up the transition (does he really want to? I think he wasn't because of how things have been going with the economy, ect.) he went and visited a college in Texas not to talk about policy or the failed bailout package but to remind people of the good stuff. Bush "reminisced about memorable moments of his presidency" which included traveling to 74 countries and all over the United States. Apparently he had quite a few stories to tell. There was the usual talk of how much of a "privilege" it was to serve but he did joke about his "post-presidency prospects" and related himself to those college students didn't currently have jobs.

While he was obviously focusing more on the good than the bad, maybe that's what people need right now, some humor, someone to relate with.
Plus there are bound to be serious criticism about this speech but I think it's probably time he did start that letting go process. Sure he screwed up at times but giving people to good stuff now is just fine. Let historians do the rest of the score keeping.

Well of course Bush isn't going to discuss all the negative aspects of his presidential term. Despite the negative image he has created for himself over the years, I doubt he is going to mention it during the last days of his campaign. Though his little attempts to prevent others from seeing him in such a negative light are are nearly ineffective at this point. America has already formed such a disdainful opinion upon him that it's unlikely for it to change.

Sure, I completely agree that Bush has had a pretty dismal time as president, but if you have also seen his interviews throughout the past 6 months or so, you would also see how President Bush has been a bit more relaxed and laid back in his approach to interviews. He has seem to be a bit more colloquial than he has been in the past, making his interviews and speeches at least a bit more entertaining to watch.

That is what I am talking about. Give the man a break. I know he has worked hard and sometimes failed but no one is perfect. The ignorant people that are giving him crap should ask themselves if they could have really done a much better job. Be critical but not harsh. I am glad he isn't trying to leave his mark in the government because we need something new and fresh with Obama. I can not wait to see if Obama is going to be a great success

I bet Bush is counting down the days like a kid counts down to winter break *cough*. After the last four years, which probably could have been handled better, I bet he can't wait to have all of that stress, responsibility, and anxiety end.

Before watching Journeys with George, I would have been rather skeptical about what kind of good things Bush could talk about, but I realized that he isn't a completely bad person, just a little misguided and blind sometimes, though that might not always be his fault, what with his VP...Anyways, I think that he was reminiscing to make people realize that he enjoyed his time in office, no matter how much stress and how many problems he had to get through, so I think it was a nice way for him to round out his presidency.

Obviously, he isn't going to mention all the bad things. Since when do politician admit that they were wrong? I think that Bush is just ready for his term to end. It must be hard knowing that your popularity is that low, and he probably doesn't want to focus on that. I must admit he seems like a pretty cool person, and some of his stories must have been interesting. Anyways, he just has to end his presidency positively. I wonder what he's going to do after this?

I agree with Mikkey, wouldn't you want to get this all over with and move, hopefully, to greener pasture? There's only so much criticism a person can take! Yes, he did a bad job, but at least he never stopped trying, he didn't resign, maybe he was afraid the country would be worse under Cheney. But on the topic of jobless college students, I wonder how the economy will look by the time we graduate from college? Or how about during when we try to take off as much money from loans and tuition as we can now? Not exactly a great time to be in college, what with tuition rising like nobody's business, colleges cutting back on admission spaces, it's just a grand ol' time isn't it now.

Obviously most of everyone know that Bush has a little grudge in refusing to let go of his position. And in return he decides to leave a mark by making poor decisions in due to the lack of time in making an impact in the society. His popoularity has severely dropped as Obama's increases. Bush is just making it worst himself though, I feel bad for him.

What's done is done. It's good to remember the positive things that have happened, but it is just as important to remember the negative things and learn from them. I also think it will be interesting to see what Bush does after his presidency. Will he write a book? Will he be a prominent public speaker? Only time can tell.

You can say what you want about Bush, but at this point he really isn't entitled to care anymore. With his term almost up and his successor already named, Bush has no pressure to defend himself from media and social criticism. There isn't anything you can say about him that hasn't already been said in the past 6 years. While he did earn most of the blame we put on him, he is only human. As a regular person, he managed the 9/11 crisis very well, and managed to bomb most of the Taliban in Afghanistan into the stone age. Too bad Iraq didn't go so well, but in a few months, it will be Obama's problem, not his. It's a bit sad that history will mostly remember him for how he *handled* the war in Iraq, but that's life. We remember Nixon for Watergate, but we should try to remember him for opening up China and the many reforms he passed in office. It has been a long 8 years, and its pretty natural for him to try as hard as he can to reflect on the good traits of his time in office.
