A Comedian in the Senate?

Al Franken is a comedian? Wow, I never would have guessed it! I have been hearing his name on the news for a while, but never really focused on what he was up to. I knew he had a radio show, but I thought it was a political talk show, not comedy. Does anyone know a little bit more about Franken's history in politics? I'm interested in learning a little bit more about this guy.

Franken is a comedian/pundit in the style of the left's alternative to Bill O'Reilly. He has some experience in being "political," but has never held any significant political position. He could, of course, make C-SPAN more interesting if he is elected.

Good communication and "people skills" are important for politics, according to Hardball, so as a comedian, I guess Franken already has that helpful characteristic. If he hasn't held any political position like scott says and he's up for the Senate, I guess it has to be his personality!!...(maybe?)

Well, I hadn't heard of him until now, so I'll be looking out for him. Politics may become more interesting..

First of all, I would have to disagree with Scott's assertion that Franken is the left's alternative to Bill O'Reilly. As someone who has read a couple of Franken's books i would say that he seems to be a rather bright guy and someone who respects the facts of a situation which in my mind at least makes him very unlike Bill O'Reilly. Secondly there is little chance that he could be a much worse choice than some of those who currently represent/have represented American's ... Lynn Westmoreland, Foley ect.
