Cartoonists pay tribute to 9/11

Look through your Sunday newspapers today. In the comics section, you'll find an interesting dedication to 9/11. Regular cartoonists of Sunday newspapers, who normally work independently, have decided to unite and remember September 11. All cartoons in the newspaper are dedicated to the date in some way. Comic strips often mock or criticize the news in a funny way, but today, the cartoonists defined a line between respect and having a little laugh. They wanted to "convey the 'it's okay to laugh again' message." Some are serious or inspirational, while others allow you to have a small laugh. I think this is a great way to remember 9/11. Cartoonists are always really good at conveying messages in an interesting and captivating way and i just think this is a nice way to do it for 9/11. "Cartoonists Remember" is a collection of 93 cartoons from different cartoonists. They will be on display in museums throughout the United States.

I'm glad this got posted because I sadly do not receive the newspaper anymore and, as a result, woefully unaware of this. 9/11 is a terrible moment in our history and should be treated as such. Seeing this post, I agree with Kirsten. What the cartoonists are doing is a great testament to this day. They are showing that they can be serious when need be and, as Kirsten said, allowing us to have a small laugh again at the same time. While this moment will always be ingrained it our hearts and minds, this can help us continue to move forward even ten years later.

I think cartoonists do a great job at getting their points across in a creative way, and this is a very appropriate idea for 9/11. Looking through some of the cartoons (http://cartoonistsremember911.com/), I notice there is a balance between lightheartedness and reverence. They portray how 9/11 was a serious event, but instead of only dwelling on sadness we can also focus on keeping our heads up in remembrance.

I absolutely agree with what Kirsten has said. Having a small laugh at 9/11 is a great way to remember it. By laughing it shows that people are healing which is all we really need. In the article Brendan Buford, the comic editor for King Features Syndicate, said that "People turn to the comics for a laugh, but they also turn to the comics for reflection on the world around them." When people see these comics, hopefully they will see that the country is moving on and healing and also remember the atrocities that occurred that day so that they never happen again.
