So, religious fanaticism. What else is new? I suppose it is a topic we are all familiar with. However, I am sure that the number of people who have died is at least somewhat of a surprise. After a coordinated attack on a mosque in Egypt, 235 have died, including women and children.  The reason for the attack is, we assume, is that the mosque is a Sufi mosque. According to CNN, ultra radical Muslims don't really appreciate the mosque. So they found it necessary to remove the mosque's associates. To do so, they utilized automatic weapons and explosives. They even fired upon ambulances who decided to help the injured. The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi
states,"We will respond to this act with brute force against these terrorists. This terrorist act will strengthen our resolve, steadfastness and will to stand up to, resist and battle against terrorism." Clearly, Egypt has received a brutal reminder of the dangers of terrorism. In a tweet, Trump has expressed his opinions on the subject matter. He does not approve of terrorism either.

In the wake of this matter, what tools do we need to stop innocents from suffering? Preemptive Strike? Should we be afraid?

This was a devastating attack that left a body count of more than 300. Yet, I don't see anyone changing their Facebook profile pictures to the flag of Egypt like they with the flag of France back in 2015 when Paris suffered a terrorist attack. I think one of the most important things we can do to is to actually stand united. We need to condemn all terrorist attacks, and give support to the forces (in response to the other post about the US withdrawing support from the Kurds) working against IS. I know it is still too early to tell if this attack was actually carried out by the IS or not (even though the gunmen were carrying the IS flag), but in order to prevent more people from joining extremist groups, I think the US needs to show more support towards other countries and groups of people.

In my Opinion, we should have security at mosques with metal detectors and an x-ray belt so that people won't bring weapons to the mosque, keeping everyone safe. We should be scared because a lot of incidents these days include guns. there are a lot of gun violence going on all over the world, and it needs to stop, we need stricter gun rules.

I agree with Kaitlin that we need to remain united during this time. Not only does this impact citizens in Egypt, it is another wake up call to the rest of the world that attacks like this can happen at any given time. It's important to take safety precautions. Ultimately, this ties back to gun control laws that have become a large issue in our world nowadays. I think its fairly obvious that President Trump is against terrorism, but I would like to see him take a stand and help those in need, rather than just tweeting about it. I think a good starting point is restricting guns in America and do thorough investigations when an individual wants to purchase a gun. From there, possibly having more security, as Arjun said, but it is better to be safe then sorry if something like this happens happens again.

Kaitlin brings up the Paris attacks which is (morbidly) funny. Is it not odd how the Paris attack who left less dead got more media attention than this story.

Melanie suggests that Trump should do something about the terrorism, which is also (morbidly) funny. When he tried to impose a travel ban, everyone flipped out and thought he was crazy. However, I have not seen another plan proposed to stop terrorism. Arjun's plan is impractical to implement on a national scale. While you could do that at a few places, it would take a massive infrastructure and budget to put it into place.
