Tom Price resigns after plane scandal

Friday morning US health secretary, Tom Price, resigned. He was previously involved in a plane scandal in which he took advantage of the private jets that were for business and political trips. Price may have cost taxpayers around $400,000. Price faced major scrutiny for this scandal and President Trump let it be known that this sort of behavior was not acceptable and was outraged. Price has made several public apologies but has still received hate and backlash for his actions. All the intense heat Price has felt seemed to have gotten to him because now we see him resigning due to the scandal.

When president Trump first took office he vowed to keep a clean cabinet with little drama. That seems like the opposite with a scandal about the Trump Administration in the news every week.

I read elsewhere that if a cabinet member under the Obama administration did this, it would have been a firing offense. It seems that Trump's tolerance of such actions is higher than the previous administration, which is disappointing. Trump claims to champion the people and encourages tax cuts, yet taxpayer dollars are being wasted on over-the-top expenses. It's quite infuriating. Additionally, Price criticized Nancy Pelosi for flying in private planes in 2010. All of this adds up to be quite hypocritical. I do not believe Trump has met his promises of having a drama-free cabinet. Since he became president, there has been non-stop drama in the presidential administration.

I guess you could say he paid the ... Price.

I agree with Tori's comments that using government funds for personal travel is inappropriate and wasting taxpayer money. However, Price is not the only member of Trump's administration that has used government planes for personal use. Steve Mnuchin previously used a government plane in August to travel to Kentucky with his wife in order to view the eclipse. Mnuchin is also a billionaire, making his use of taxpayer funded transportation even more inappropriate. Trump's plan for tax cuts and silence on this issue is hypocritical and unprofessional.

I'm pretty surprised that Price resigned, considering there have been multiple government officials who have gotten away with the same offense. I think it's pretty obvious that Trump isn't willing to take any action against offenses like this and it's not very surprising. I think that Trump will continue to turn a blind eye towards things like this in the next few years of his presidency as well.

It seems as if drama follows president Trump wherever he goes. I think that it was smart of Tom Price to resign, it is almost a form or apology. It was completely inappropriate and not a good use of tax payer dollars. As Tori said, it would have been a firing offense for someone in the Obama administration if he had done the same thing. Hopefully, president Trump will spend less time on twitter and instead focusing on appointing less drama filled cabinet.

I agree with the above comments. I think what Tori brought up is interesting because it does seem like Trump and his administration have created a great deal of drama since they've been in office. Trump is not only a hypocrite in this private plane situation, but also in that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have been using a private email server. While this act of using a private email server was a huge problem for Hillary Clinton, Trump's administration has seemed to get away with it, at least for now. The Trump administration has gotten away with a lot that others would not have, so I am somewhat surprised that Price resigned.
