Boston Bombing

The two Russians responsible for the Boston Bombing, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, are stated to have had further plans past the Boston Bombing. The older brother, Tamerlan, was fatally wounded and died after the shootout while Dzhokhar remains in the hospital "in serious condition." Interrogators will question Dzhokhar as soon as he recovers and is able to talk. Investigators further examined the whole story as they conducted "interviews with friends, relatives and others who knew the suspects and examinations of computers, phones, writings and their possessions."

The brothers were found armed with a small arsenal of guns, ammunition, and explosives. Also, "when the suspects seized a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle and held the driver hostage, they told him that they planned to head to New York." Officials state that based on the clues, "they were going to attack other individuals." In 2011, the FBI received a Russian warning about "one of the suspects' possible link to extremist groups." Lawmakers are accusing the FBI of an intelligence failure, "questioning whether the bureau had responded forcefully enough to Russia's warnings." Overall, what are your thoughts on this event?

Given the number of threats and warnings that the FBI get every day and that another article reported that the FBI had previously done a preliminary investigation on one of the brothers when they got the warning, I don't think this was likely due to FBI negligence, however acts like these make you realize that every threat must be taken seriously.

If the country of Russia, or any respected country warns the FBI on something, I would definitely take it seriously. That is a credible source. .

I am just glad that the whole situation is over and that the Watertown Police caught them before they were able to leave the Boston area. My respects go out to MIT police officer Sean Collier for his death in the line of duty. I think that the FBI probably looked into the issue seriously but didn't find any significant leads at the time, two years ago. One thing that really confuses me however, is why would the Tsarnaev brothers stay until Thursday night in addition to admitting the crime to the driver of the stolen vehicle and letting him escape...

One of the scariest aspects of this attack is that two brothers, who obviously didn't have an elaborate plan of attack (nor escape, as Alvin pointed out), could cause such a scare throughout the nation with relatively simple weapons.
Although the suspects have been successfully contained, this situation is far from over. Dzhokhar is still being questioned by investigators behind the motive of the attack. Meanwhile, I sincerely hope that the people of Boston will be able to emotionally recovery from this tragedy.

This was obviously a very upsetting incident and I think that people should learn from it. Like Sam said every threat should be taken seriously. I think that it is astounding after all these attacks and violent acts and murders people still have access to these weapons. I know it is a lot of money and time to maintain safety and security but shouldn't those be top priorities? Especially when there is so much out there that is possible to change for the better.
