Boston Bomb Kills Two, Hundreds Wounded

According to the National Post, two bombs went off during the Boston Marathon of 2013. These explosions ignited towards the end of the path, effectively killing two, and injuring one-hundred and five others, fifteen of which are in critical condition. Tragically, among the deceased, is a Bostonian child of no more than eight years. The injuries which ensued this tragic event ranged from "burns" to "gashes," and even to "missing limbs." Supposedly, the bombs were in close proximity to each other, less than one-hundred meters apart, with multiple victims near both sites. Following this, Boston police has asked that the public remain at home.

Currently, in regard to the status of determining the culprit, nothing has been gained. The footage of the bombs exploding revealed little to no evidence, causing quite the predicament. There also seems like there was no motive relating to this attack, and currently officials are clueless as to both who would plan such a horrific deed, and what was the impetus behind the culprit's action. There are no leads to support that this happening was related to terror attacks, yet the possibility is not improbable. With no evidence to provide insight or clues on this case, further investigation is required in order to gain any traction on this case.

Obama himself reassured the nation that such blatant attacks on the American people would not go unchecked, directly stating, "We will find out who did this, we will find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice." The President promised that all necessary relief would be provided, and that the American people would be with Boston "every single step of the way.”

This event is undoubtable tragic, and it really raises the question about what type of person could commit to pulling off such a heinous crime? Do you think Obama's response to the Boston Bombings was adequate? What is your general attitude towards this occurance, as a whole?

Obama used many patriotic words such as "we" and "justice" to reassure the citizens. I think at this stage in the conflict, that is what we need the most. However, words can only do so much. Obama needs to show plans, display progress, in order to fully reassure the people.
After having a nice time at prom with peers, who would have imagined such a tragic event to follow? Horrific events are always unexpected, like this event with seemingly no motives, and I think this bombing will remind America to always be on our toes, instead of spotting potential threats after they occur, after all the injuries.

The fact that this bombing was on a civilian publicized event makes it likely to be a terrorist attack. For what reason or from whom the attack came from is still obviously unclear. I think Obama's response to the tragedy was adequate, comforting citizens at a troubling time and vowing to punish those responsible. Personally, I feel disgusted and horrified at this attack. Only the worst of the worst would attack such an innocent event such as this marathon. Hopefully, those responsible will soon be found, apprehended and brought to swift justice.

I agree with Marvin about the fact that it does seem like some sort of terrorist attack. The Boston Marathon is a huge international event attracting many many people from around the world, making this a very high profile event. So many countries were represented and the event took place on both tax day and Patriots day, which is a holiday in Massachusetts. This sort of high profile attack on an American holiday gives it the look of an anti-U.S terrorist attack.
This bombing is horrific and very very upsetting. To say the least, the senselessness and carnage at a time of achievement and happiness is appalling and I'm glad that the marathon event reacted so well to such unimaginable circumstances.
As for preparing for the future, who knows what strategies can best prevent this sort of thing. As many sources have mentioned, marathons and other events requiring lots of room are really difficult to protect. I'm sure the marathon next year will be safer, however, there is still that inevitable risk factor.

I was in shock to learn that someone had bombed the finish line of the Boston marathon. This bombing does seem like a terrorist attack, however I am open to the idea that it could be a domestic attack. Our last couple of domestic attacks have been public shootings. I was especially upset to hear that someone had bombed an event that was benefiting those affected by the Sandy Hook shooting. I think the irony of that scenario is awful and may have prompted the attacker to target this event. I also agree with Wyatt that a bombing on Patriots Day is rather symbolic and could have been a factor in choosing that day as well.

I am fearful that this is an actual terrorist attack. The government is already spending billions upon billions of dollars in our defense department. I can only imagine how much more money will be spent in the defense department and I am worried for the other government funded programs that need money. Considering the amount of increased security and money spent on defense, I am shocked and somewhat concerned that these bombs went undetected. I'm very fearful that this marathon bombing could be the start of a very serious war. Hopefully justice will soon be served to those responsible.
