In the negotiations that led to this agreement, Karzai has also said that the US troops who stay in Afghanistan after the deadline to leave will be given immunity from prosecution. This move will allow a small force of US troops to remain in the country to continue training Afghan forces. These troops will also be able to handle some counterterrorism operations. Although US commanders have suggested leaving up to 15000 troops for this residual force, the Obama administration is only expected to leave 3000 to 9000.

As for Afghanistan's future, it is difficult to predict what will happen next. The government isn't too strong and after 2014 Karzai is set to step down. Other problems within Afghanistan, such as joblessness, will also make it difficult for the government to really stay in control of the county.
What do you think of all this? Are you optimistic about Afghanistan's future or no? Are we pulling our troops out to early?

Many people are sensitive to America's role in the world. Many times we are labeled as the "world police." Sometimes it is taken offensively, others take it like a great task to the United States. In this case, America has decided to step down as the world police into a more lax role. Now America will be more of an ally who just helps out against terrorist groups. I feel like America stepping down is the correct thing to do. We cannot fix all of Afghanistan's problems. If Afghanistan situation becomes critical, America can always send more troops over. However right now, let them try their best to build themselves up. The right to be an independent country does not happen until America leaves.
