As the Democratic National Convention moves into its second day, many speakers of the Democratic Party have offered their points of views and ideas about America. But one small group in the vast party is having trouble being seen or heard. The Democratic anti-abortionists are trying to "assert some influence" in Charlotte to get people to accept their views. One of the smallest factions in the Democratic Party, the anti-abortionists believe that they are key to the party retaking the majority in Congress. 35 years ago, there were 125 anti-abortionist Democrats in a Democratic Congress. Now, only 17 anti-abortionists call themselves Democrats. The question isn't "what are anti-abortionists doing in the Democratic Party," it's "what makes them Democrats?" The answer is actually quite simple: they support Democratic principles and have voted them through. Most of all, the anti-abortionists that remain in the Democratic Party believe that Republican nominee Mitt Romney would do a far worse job at protecting unborn children than President Obama. If Romney is elected and Paul Ryan's Medicare plan is implemented, the number of abortions would skyrocket. So as of now, the anti-abortionists are sticking with the Democratic Party and hoping that they can be heard at the convention.
Since there are so few anti-abortionists in the Democratic Party, do you think they can make a push in being heard or gaining support in the party?

How would the number of abortions skyrocket if Romney plans on ending all federal funding to places like planned parenthood?
I think the comment was intended to mean that the number of illegal or dangerous abortions would skyrocket with Romney's end of funding.
Whether or not they are done safely or dangerously, the amount of abortions that happen will stay the same under either candidate, unless schools work on having comprehensive and accurate sex ed classes.
I'm a little confused by the post. If the "number of abortions [that] would skyrocket" are referring to illegal ones, then doesn't that mean the anti-abortion Democrats support legal and safe abortions? I also agree with Sam that if conception can be prevented in the first place, abortion rates will go down as well, but how seriously do you think students will take the class? Will it really be that effective when kids seem to be constantly joking around about a picture of a penis in a textbook? On a different note, the wording of this post makes it seem like anti-abortionists are an endangered species in the Democratic Party. Although this is my own opinion, I highly doubt that the Democrats are overwhelmingly pro-choice. Such a large party is sure to have a wide range of people with a wide range of beliefs and values, just like how not all Republicans are religious conservatives either.
Aaron is right. It would be overgeneralizing to say that pro-life people are rare in the democratic party (one of the problems with the polarization of the 2 parties.) But yeah, accurate sex ed classes would be taken pretty seriously. We live in a nice bubble at Aragon, but there are actually hundreds of schools (even public schools) in CA that teach inaccurate or abstinence only education, despite the fact that it is illegal to do so. This causes a lot of unplanned pregnancies and abortions.
