Obama Ratings Rising

We all know about Osama Bin Laden now being killed. But has this National WorldWide Event changed Barack Obama's ratings as he is the President who had issued the order? Many people believe, with the killing of the Al-Qaeda leader, that Obama's ratings will surely rise over the next days-weeks.Keep this in mind, there are still many months left until his reelection and certaintely by then the joy/happiness of Osama will be long gone, will his death be strong enough to have voters pick for Obama again next fall? His ratings currently are at 40% but it is said recently that his ratings will now soar due to this event.

Do you think Obama will have enough support from 9/11 families to have them vote for him after he issued American Troops to kill Osama Bin Laden, or will feelings die down by re-election that voters decide on other candidates for the 2012 election?

I'm not going to make a Obama Osama joke here now...

Honestly, I think this bump will be a small little blip in the long run, after a while, his approval rating will return to the normal, unless terrorists do something big, which then it might jump up again or fall even further.

I think this is definitely a typical trend of the ups and downs of ratings. Bush's ratings also soared after 9/11. This might give Obama a little boost, but if the U.S. follows up with something even better, that's what is really gonna get the ratings to stay. In my opinion, it'll take more than 40% for Obama to gain reelection.

I also do not think that the death of Osama bin Laden will significantly affect how voters feel about Obama during the 2012 elections. What will be more critical, at least in the areas of foreign policy and counterterrorism, is how Obama handles things in the future. The future of the U.S.'s dealings with terrorism is by no means any more certain than before. For example, if national intelligence and security fail to prevent a retaliatory attack from bin Laden supporters, Obama's approval ratings will surely plummet. The 2012 election will also depend on many other factors, such as the state of the economy and the Republican opponent, that might overshadow bin Laden's death.

I definately think that his rating will go up. He accomplished something that geroge bush couldnt do, not only find osama, but kill him and bush had two terms to do it. I still think that alot of people will have mixed feelings however. But in the end, i believe he will ultimately be re-elected.

I don't know if it was done intentionally, but it seems that the information about Osama Bin Laden's death was released right around the time that the hype over 2012 candidates was starting up. According to the president, the government has had sufficient information and a number of leads on Osama Bin Laden's whereabouts and have been staking him out for months. I would hope Obama wouldn't stoop this low, but perhaps he waited until further in the year to increase his chances of being elected. Afterall, FOX did interrupt Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" at least a half hour before they released any actual information on Osama's death. Perhaps he was trying to hamper down on Trump's image to better his own. Either way, this also happened with the origional president Bush during Operation Desert Storm. Obama has passed health care, he has (though not all the credit is his) had Osama Bin Laden taken out, and he's begun pulling troops out of Iraq. These are three main aspects he swore to complete, so I think the fact that he's a president who gets things done will help his reelection.

I think that the killing of Osama bin Laden is such a significant event that people will take it into consideration when they vote. As for Obama's approval rating, as the others have mentioned, it will definitely go up for the next days/weeks. But it will probably drop back down to where it is usually is.
I don't think this event is enough to secure reelection but it will be a factor many voters will take into consideration.

To piggyback Ayaka, I agree with her. furthermore, I think that were so young at the time that we do not appreciate fully the implications of his death. When this broke I was like "yay! but whatever nothing's going to happen ultimately," but all the older people I've talked to about this are always like "omg this is amazinggg, he's great, etc." So who knows? Maybe our pov is different than those who will be voting in 2012 (which should include us, too!!!).

Also on a tangential point, I want to raise a different issue, and that is Obama's choice not to release the photos. In my opinion, I agree with him on that. I think that releasing them would be sparking even more violence and raise the threat even more. Imagine if someone killed one of our leaders and paraded the pics around the media. We would freak out and riot. I'm afraid the same would happen should they have been released now.

p.s. does everyone else have to write the stupid word verification thing for EVERY comment? How annoying.......

You see, Obama planned this Osama thing just before starting his election campaign up again. This was his trump card against Trump in the next election. I AM SO FUNNY!!!... You know it's funny. O___O Anyway, I think that conspiracy theories about Osama's death, and time will actually end up leveling off his(Obama's) rating to their current levels. It must be said... Thank You GEORGE W. BUSH!!!! Without you we would have never found this nucular, WMD, terrorist threat.

p.s. that a partially serious joke.

I think that everyone is giving Obama too much credit. This sounds more like a coincidence than anything. Not to rain on Obama, but he is just another president, just another guy whos the president. And 40% does not seem high at all. So if anything, he wouldnt be a great president if his ratings were low like that, so why change opinions just because the bad guy is dead now which happened to fall under Obama's presidency? I mean I guess people let their thankfulness take over their thoughts and opinions, but no one should let that determine their decision on the next election and not really pay any attention to the real politics the president stands for.

And Timothy! Your comments are so interesting to read! I dont think I would ever win in an argument with you! You say things in a way that make people believe what you believe! Its so funny this little power of words you have. Good argument starter lol

I agree with Jason, bin Laden's death does not have as much of an impact on us as others. We were only in what, third grade when 9/11 happened. I think adults and people with loved ones that died on 9/11 will think of Obama as a hero for a while. If someone was responsible for killing one of your loved ones, I'm sure you would be happy to see them getting punished for their wrong doing. I definitely think this will help him in both ratings and getting reelected. So many families and other people have wanted bin Laden dead, and now that it has happened, I think many people will be thinking about this significant event while they vote.

I believe that Obama's ratings will increase drastically after the death of Bin Laden. The feelings will most likely die down as the 2012 elections approach, but I believe that Obama will emphasize this event in order to gain support for re-election. I think that Obama will have enough support to win re-election in the 2012 election because although feelings may die down as time passes by, Obama will be able to restore these patriotic feelings within Americans to win their support.
