A toddler, Cash Hyde, is a very happy boy, but soon became very sick. Doctors had always told him that he has mono. Cash's father, Mike, knew something else was wrong and that it wasn't just mono, he believed it was something more serious. He had taken his son to the e.r. where they did different testing and found a 4.5 centimeter tumor in his brain. He was just one year old, almost two, at the time.
He was rushed to another hospital where they did brain surgery to take out the tumor, though he still had the cancer in him. At this point, Cash was extremely sick, sleeping more than half the day, and not eating one bit.
He was put on extreme doses of medication of kemo therapy, which made him feel extremly awful. Kemo was not working for him and he still felt terrible. They had tried many different solutions but nothing was cutting it. The doctors honestly thought that he was not going to make it.
Mike had mentioned canibus to the doctors, but they instantly denied it. So what his dad did was get authorization from another source to use the canibus oil, but did not tell cash's doctors why. He had asked the doctors to take Cash off of the medications he was taking, and instead he used the canibus oil through his feeding tube.
Miraculously enough, Cash felt alot better and he actually took his first bite of food after 40 days or so of not eating.
A week after an interview with the Hyde family, they got the incredible news that Cash was now cancer free.
What would you do in this situation? If nothing was working for your child, and canibus oil was your last resort, would you take the risk to give it to your child?

I personally love miracles! BUT, I refuse to believe that cannabis can cure cancer. There is no known scientific experiment that proves this cause and effect (I've been studying for stats too much...). Also, in Utah, the state where the boy was being treated, and Montana, where the his family lives, medical marijuana is illegal. This is sensational news, not a factual experiment that anyone should believe.
Dr. Linda Granowetter, a pediatrics professor at NYU, also said that the idea of marijuana curing cancer is "ludicrous."

I personally think that medical marijuana should be allowed, especially in times like this. If my child was deathly ill with cancer, I would be willing to try anything in order to save him. We all know that marijuana/cannabis causes the urge to eat and this could have been what saved Cash. If it saves people's lives, I don't see why it should be illegal. I don't think it can cure cancer, but it can definitely help with the symptoms.
I agree with LuShuang in that this is a "sensational news." Marijuana itself does no cure cancer. I think that if it did, it would already be available as a medication. Medical marijuana has its benefits but claiming it cures cancer is definitely not true.
What do you guys think about these kinds of articles that claim pretty far fetched stories that just try to get your attention? I find it annoying in a way because some people actually believe this stuff and use it as arguments. (It makes me laugh sometimes.)
Aww. This is a very touching story. I am surprised that the boy healed! I always believed that doctors knew best, but I guess not in this case. I am very happy that he is now cancer free, and I hope he is cancer free for the rest of his life. A one-year old child doesn't deserve to have his life ruined and plagued by cancer as he hasn't lived out much of anything so far as a baby.
With regard to the medical marijuana used, maybe it was just ironic that upon using the canibus oil, the baby lived. Maybe some of the chemotherapy did the work, or the other things doctors were doing helped the tumor, but the actual results did not come immediately. Or, maybe a miracle just happened. Either way, I'm just happy that people found a cure for this baby! I'm just curious to why the guy would choose to use canibus oil of all things to cure the baby.
The canibus oil replaced the anti-nausea medication and relieved the extremity of the kemo therapy. I also dont believe that canibus can cure cancer, but I do believe that it sure does help.
Score for the dad! Obviously the dad is not some random pot-head who simply gets authorization for cannabis oil so that he can veg for an eternity, so I would say that everything he did was totally justifiable. In fact, the doctors should have thought about such a course of action before the father did; if the son had continued his regular medication treatment he might be now dead of starvation!
Winception for the dad! I think his actions are totally appropriate. He loves his kid so he did anything he could to save his life. And in context, the dad did the only thing he could do. None of the treatments were working and he heard canibus oil might potentially work. I'm proud he chose to take that chance because the alternative would surely be his son's death.
Marijuana has been used for medical purposes for ages. Of course I would give Cannabis Oil to my son if it would be the only thing that saves him from his cancer. Regardless of the long term effects that could arise from his treatment, at least he's going to live and have a future. As Jesvin said, if the alternative was death, I'd definitely try everything to save my son.
This is such an amazing story. If i were in this situation, I would do whatever it takes to fight for my child's life but I cannot think that cannabis oil was the cure. Wouldn't it be possible that the surgery and medication could have helped? This child is a medical miricle and sometimes that just happens and is not due to some other "treatment."
I agree with Jesvin. If you really loved your son you would do anything to cure him. As regards to cannabis for medical purposes, I think contrary to believe, it actually can relieve pain, and has been used for ages to relieve pain. I disagree with Aly when she said that "this is just a medical miracle" because countless others have been relieved of pain by using medical marijuana. Society has only taught the bad effects, and has never presented the positive effects. I think we need to be more open minded. I am glad this father was.
I totally agree and I believe that if nothing is working for my child or love one I would use whatever is necessary to save their life or help them. It is a life! You gotta sometimes take risks. I do agree it does not cure cancer but it probably cured something little in Cash that helped save him. Also, marijuana gives you the munchies which also helped Cash. Some situations you have to take risks and I will do anything to save a love one.
honestly, if i am the father of that child, I'd try anything and everything to make sure my son is healthy..the fact that doctors didn't look into more holistic healing is kinda scary..some people may think that the dad is just a pothead , but his ingenuity saved his child's life, so i gotta give kudos for that. although i'm not yet sold on the legalization of medical marijuana, this is a really touching story, and hopefully the child's suffering is over.
i dont give a damn whether its marijuana, some chinese herbal tea, whatever....i dont care if the governments gonna arrest me, when your world revolves around your kids, you'll do anything and i mean ANYTHING to keep them safe, healthy, and happy.
i dont think it cured the cancer.. but a dosage of marijuana mightve gotten him to eat more.. i dont know i'm not a doctor, just sayin. and getting him to eat probably was what helped saved him..
lushuang! you should do an observational study on the effects of marijuana and cancer!!

Unless there is evidence that can be tested to be statistically significant at a 5% level of significance, I'm not really to support the idea that cannabis is a cure for cancer. However, in times of desperation in which you have no better alternative, I think that taking chances like what his father did are smart. Maybe the cannabis didn't cure the boy's cancer, but it must have done something. Because the boy is too young to understand what medication is effective or not, the placebo effect would have a small chance of actually occurring in this case. It is most likely that the cannabis oil helped relieve the complications that might have arisen as an aftermath of the previous treatments. The fact that medical marijuana is illegal in the state where the boy lives makes me think the father loves his child to the highest degree. With an situation that almost seems to mirror the Heinz dilemma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_dilemma) , the father was willing to obtain something illegal to save his son's life, even if it meant that he could be possibly punished for doing so by the authorities. I respect Mike for what he did and hope that his son will be able to fully recover from the complications caused by his cancer.
If my child was awfully sick, and at the risk of dying, i would try to do anything i could to save him/her. If cannabis oil does the trick, then so be it. Sure it is a risk in itself to give a one year old a hallucinogen, but it worked. Obviously weed cant cure cancer, Shelby identified what exactly the drug helped with. Miracles like these are reasons why weed should become legal, there are so many health benefits that should be accessible to the public. If it can save a life of a baby, who says it cant save a life of anyone? Props to the father for taking a leap of faith like he did.
For incidents like this, I believe that it is okay for marijuana to be used. If it was my kid, I would do anything to save him or her. Yea maybe sometimes marijuana wont cure the cancer, but it will make the cancer patient not be in pain anymore. You have to take risk sometimes in order to save someone. I'm sure this man who saved his child feels very relieved and extremely happy that his son is okay, and I bet it was not easy what he had to do or what he had to go through.
