Al Qaeda threats, terror plans surface

Since the death of Osama the Al Quaeda has made threats to the U.S. "The blood of the mujahid sheikh, Osama bin Laden, may God have mercy on him, is very dear to us and more precious to us and to every Muslim from being shed in vain," the statement said. A mujahid is defined as a Muslim engaged in what he considers to be jihad. Investigators found material siezed from the raid with details of a possible attack on the 10th annivery of 9/11. The materials suggest that al Quaeda was interested in targeting Washington, New tork, Los Angeles amd Chicago on specifc dates such as July 4, Chrismas, and the opening day of the United Nations. With this information that has been presented; i have a question for you guys. Should we continue to pursue Al Queada? Even though it took us 10 years to find 1 man and with that 10 years brought us to our current economic situation. Or should we end this war since we already got the man responsible for 9/11? whats your guys input on this.

Should we pursue al Qaeda? or should we just let ourselves get bombed, because they aren't targeting us in the bay area? That is an easy question. What do you want us to do? Have us stand there and get bombed until they are satisfied?

Now is the time to have our efforts be the strongest.

I feel like either way, no matter what we really do, the Al Quaeda is still going to want revenge on us for killing Osama. I agree with A Goya, that now is when we need to have our efforts be the strongest, because I feel like they wont ever let this go.

If the pursuit of Al Qaeda will prevent terrorist attacks on the U.S., I believe it should be continued. However, I have doubts about the efficacy of our endeavor. How are we to take down this network with no central leadership, and do it in a way that prevents terrorist attacks in the future? I feel that it would be a better use of our resources to shore up our internal defenses.

I agree with Jack's comment. We need to somehow prevent this from happening or prepare for it just in case it does happen in the future. It's no surprise that Al Quaeda would want to avenge their leader. To answer the question posed in the article, we need to continue to pursue Al Quaeda so that future terrorist operations will not have a chance of occurring at all. We need to protect ourselves and our nation, and the only way to do this is to get rid of Al Quaeda, but that's way easier said than done.

It's no doubt that the death of Bin laden has caused the threat level to rise. It doesn't surprise me that the new so called ring leaders of the organization are planning to attack on major US holidays simply because they think that they can get away with the attacks since it took the US ten years to find Bin Laden. That being said, I feel as though our military will be able to carry out a similar mission if needed because they will have already had the experience.

The U.S. should definitely continue to pursue Al Qaeda... if anything we should be more vigilant than ever of future terrorist attacks. Especially given that Al Qaeda has reason to hurt us.

If there's was even the slightest possibility that another terrorist attack like 9/11 were to occur, the morale of our country would be completely devastated. As a result, we must continue to remain firm and wary of future attacks. The end of Bin Laden definitely does not signal the end of Al Qaeda.

Killing Osama is definitely no end all and is of very little practical significance. We must continue pursuing our foes around the globe and we must continue fighting this war on terror. Osama may be dead, but the Al Quaeda is as strong as ever. We must hit them where it hurts the most and continue winning our battles against them. We're already in this hole and there really isn't any point in leaving until the job is done. After all, money does grow on trees, right?

According to the article, the navy seals found these "new" plans when they raided the shelter, didn't they? Which means that these plans were in place long before bin Laden's death, not in hopes of "avenging" him, so to say that all of these "new" plans were cooked up in a matter of days in the wake of bin Laden's assassination simply isn't true. Of course we have to pursue Al Quaeda--that's not even a question. They're a terrorist organization, and they don't like us. End of story, we pursue them. But what this thread should focus on is why they don't like us and how we can fix that problem. The article makes reference to the terrorists refusing to rest and making hell for us for as long as the people of Palestine live the same way. The most effective way to stop Al Qaeda would be to give them what they want--the removal of western influence in the Middle East. We'd have to give up oil and Israel and all our puppet governments we've set up there. But, of course, we can't give up these things for ethical and political reasons, and thus we will continue to assume that money grows on trees until someone thinks of a solution to the root of the problem, not just a consequence of one symptom.

I'm not so sure that this is really a choice at all. We already dug ourselves in this far. We have made an enemy that still exists and will do anything to attack the U.S.. I'm not really sure how much Osama meant, but those surfaced plans are intel treasure. If they released that information to the public though, I have to wonder if the U.S. Government already knew about the attacks.

I think we should stick with it. There's no point in backing out now since we're this far in, so might as well do what we can. The Al Qaeda probably won't relent anytime soon, and neither can we. We might hear complaining about the length of the war, but our soldiers are doing their best to stop the terrorist threat. Our Homeland Security defense should also be on point. Hopefully this war can end with both sides satisfied.

I respect the comments listed above from me but I find them amusing. So lets just say "we need to step up our efforts in homeland security because the terrorist threat is as high as ever". But in what way? To we stuff even more military personnel in airports? Do we abolish all carry-on luggage? Now you're thinking "what about other means of public transportion"? Trains...subways? Yeah, lets try subways. Word has it that the information obtained from the raid of where Bin Laden was hiding revealed their next target was the New York Subway. Now if we weren't already prepared enough before this information was disclosed, you can bet your a** that NYPD along with any other defense unit is taking all means to prevent any act of terrorism. For god sakes, even though it can considered discrimination, you'll never find a arabic looking fellow NOT being thoroughly scrutinized at any public transit they may go to. All due to the majority of supporters of Al-Qaida, Arabics. Now if that isn't considered safe enough then I dont know what is.
