Why is Cuomo being asked to resign before further investigations?

Cuomo, New York governor, has been involved in quite a few scandals lately. The scandal of lying about the number of deaths in nursery homes, which an earlier post already talked about, and now he is being accused of sexual harassment allegations from seven women from his workplace.

These allegations need to be taken seriously and there needs to be a full investigation of these charges. Democrats have the majority of women voting for them, they are very strong in defending women's rights and this scandal is something that goes very against the party's supposed ideology. Is this the only reason why both of New York's senators have called on Cuomo to resign last Friday, without any due process?

Cuomo has brought the democratic party a lot of praise in handling Covid and he was a very prominent anti-Trump speaker. At the time of the elections he was an essential piece to the Democrats. Now that the democrats have control of Washington, Cuomo has become expandable to the party. Making him resign swiftly, as fast as possible, would save the party from further embarrassment and not harm the results of the 2022 elections. President Biden is doing the best that he can to remain neutral in this situation and not pronounce himself, which is already being seen as a "pass" and being compared to his own past sexual harassment allegation by the left.

Cuomo's behavior is despicable. All charges against him need to be investigated, there needs to be an impeachment and a conviction. This behavior towards women in the workplace should not be pushed aside. It isn't something to just simply sweep under the rug as quickly as possible just to not affect the results of the next elections. People who do this need to be held accountable for their actions and the whole country needs to watch full justice being done. Being neutral in this situation is taking the side of the agressor.

The pressure on Gov. Cuomo to resign without due process is very unsettling. It proves that many Democrat leaders are more concerned with politics and their grip on a majority in the House and the Senate than the protection of the women who Cuomo has harassed. This situation is yet another example of the way political motivation can obscure justice. It seems that the most powerful get to decide whether or not they face repercussions based on when it is convenient for them.
On one hand, I do understand the importance for Democrats of keeping their current majority in leadership. Some are likely able to justify the silence of these women who have bravely spoken out in the name of a long term benefit for the entire country. However, it is impossible to compare the cost of losing a Democrat majority to the cost of "sweeping under the rug" the allegations against Cuomo. I agree with Eduarda that Cuomo needs to be investigated. I cannot imagine the cost that would come with telling the women who have spoken out that their truth is not worth the political risk. It would set a harmful precedent that could open the door for more harassment in the future.

First off, I agree with both Eduarda and Claire's comments on the issue- Governor Cuomo and the allegations need to be investigated. Cuomo deserves due process, but at this point he should seriously consider resigning from office, possibly even before all is said and done. With his own NY senators and 16 out of 19 NY Representatives in agreement, Cuomo has lost support within his own state and in the U.S. Congress. With Republican NY representatives also calling for his resignation, his suspected misconduct proves to extend over party lines and likely signifies the weight (and likely the validity) behind these women and their allegations. President Biden at first did not address Cuomo and his allegations, however he idd in an interview last night (Tuesday). Biden replied yes to the question if "Andrew Cuomo should resign if an investigation confirms the allegations of sexual harassment against him." Biden even added that he believes Cuomo will be prosecuted too. I think Biden's comments in the interview last night go to show where this investigation and Cuomo's future are heading. I would be very surprised if at this point, claims and allegations went "silent" and that Cuomo's misconduct was not addressed by a full investigation. I am glad that Biden spoke on the issue and defended the women coming forward with their allegations. Hopefully this signifies a positive change for the process of dealing with sexual harassment and misconduct in politics and beyond.

Echoing Eduarda, Claire and Natalie’s statements, I agree that due process of law and thorough investigations are necessary in response to the multitude of serious conflicts facing Cuomo, including numerous sexual harassment allegations and his administration’s shortcomings in terms of transparency on the statistics relating to New York’s COVID-19 nursing home deaths.
I find it concerning that as these investigations occur, the governor’s staffers are being offered lawyers “that represent the executive chamber” in the case that they are asked to provide testimony (CNN). As Krieg and Scannell of CNN report, this move appears “intimidating,” and in the words of New York Senator Gounardes, possesses “a chilling effect among potential witnesses and victims.” If staffers contributing to the investigations do not opt in to this offer, they might signal “a red flag [in the perspective of] Cuomo’s team.” This may be another factor to consider, as Cuomo asks for the public to wait for the results of the investigation.
