Members of Congress fear spread of covid during lockdown at Capitol Hill

Congress lockdowns as protestors ambush Capitol Hill

About a week later from the attack on Capitol Hill, Congress is voicing out concerns regarding potential exposure Covid - 19 while being locked out in a bunker with unmasked colleagues.

Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey recently tested positive for Covid - 19 and suspects that the source of transmission to her were the unmasked colleagues she sheltered with on 6th January. While rushing to shelter, a number of members of Congress overlooked instructions to wear masks.

In agreement with her susception, other members of Congress also fear they might have been exposed to covid.  Apart from Congress, experts claim that the riots were a "superspreader event".  Apart from trump supporters there were journalists, security guards, policy men, and many others who may have been exposed.  Doctors warned member of Congress to get tested, wear their masks, and stay socially distant for next few days.

Freedom of will is often brought up in discussions regarding a mandatory mask order. To what extent should this freedom exist if it is hurting others? Should it be mandatory for them to wear masks to take shelter or does that go against the freedom of will?

During last week's attack, a video circulated of 6 House Republicans refusing to wear masks offered to them by Representative Lisa Rochester of Delaware (Democrat). The Oklahoma representative, Markwayne Mullin, is heard in the video saying "I'm not trying to get political here." In addition to refusing to wear masks, other representatives have come forward and said that their Republican colleagues "recklessly mocked staff and colleagues" who offered them, and "laughed at them." If any of these Representatives did in fact have Covid-19, by not wearing masks, they would be contributing to a super-spreader/surge event -- a matter that we cannot look at and laugh at. Currently, the House Democrats are looking to fine their colleagues $1000 a day if they continue to refuse to wear masks on Capitol grounds, and I look forward to seeing how this plays out in the coming weeks/months.

It seems weird to refuse a mask offered to you during the violence. Especially if it is gas mask which would protect someone from possible tear gas. I guess some people dislikes mask and buy into this whole freedom stuff. Anyways exposure to Covid-19 had slip my mind in relation to the attack on the capital.
