the mystery of North Korea

North Korea’s history has always confused and horrified many as it is filled with illogical decisions and inhumane actions, but once again they manage to confuse the whole world. On Friday, top officials from North Korea went to visit the South Korean government with no communication prior to their arrival, as South Korea was only able to even broadcast the North Korean’s arrival one hour prior to arrival. Among the North Korean delegation, was Hwang Pyong So and Choe Ryong Hae, two of the most influential men in North korea whom are thought of as the right hand men to Kim Jong Un himself. While there, the two governments discussed the possibility of increased communication between the two countries. As if this was not odd enough, Kim Jong Un has also not been seen for an entire month and was last shown in a weakened state due to illness.
What does this mean for North Korea and what were their true intentions? Does this reveal Kim’s current weak and vulnerable state, or an achievement for still managing delicate communications with South Korea while feeling under the weather. Is this an event to mark a beginning towards piece, or are there more cynical motives?

I believe that the purpose of this stunt was to give North Korea the upper hand in the meeting. They were obviously planning this for weeks or months, while South Korea had an hour of notice.
These tricks are as childish as Kim Jong Un's face. They tell me that North Korea is trying to feel superior to South Korea, possibly signaling a crisis at home. While these negotiations may lead to some more economic cooperation like the Kaesong Industrial Park, I don't foresee any large shift in North Korea's feelings towards South Korea.
