The Associated Press initiated legal action against three officials from the Trump administration on Friday, seeking judicial intervention regarding access to presidential events. The agency invoked freedom of speech in its request for a federal judge to prevent the obstruction of its journalists. In response, the White House press secretary stated, "We’ll see them in court."
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court of Washington on Friday afternoon. The AP has also requested an emergency hearing and a court order declaring the ban to be unconstitutional and mandating its withdrawal. Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee, has been designated to hear the case, all the while the Trump administration has not responded to a request for comment.
Earlier this month, the White House went out of its way to identify the Associated Press, one of the world's largest news agencies, for employing the term "Gulf of Mexico" even after Trump (and Google Maps) rebranded the area as the "Gulf of America." Public opinion was divided over the renaming, with Trump supporters welcoming the decision as patriotic, and critics condemning it as unnecessary and politically motivated rebranding. The international community and a majority of media outlets retained "Gulf of Mexico," largely ignoring the administration's preferred terminology.
These political moves highlight his choice to rule with a strong-arm approach—one that is in line with his campaign promise to exercise vigorous executive power. Critics view such moves as undermining democratic principles, but by his supporters as an exercise of necessary power against what they perceive as institutional bias.

Its extremely hypocritical for Trump to be hostile to news organizations such as the Associated Press for not renaming the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America, considering him and the Right being supposedly all for Freedom of Speech and Expression. As for if the courts can really do anything about it, I'm not really sure, because not allowing the AP into the white house media can be seen as punishing them for what they report, but I'm not sure if it really is enough, since no one is directly being arrested and stuff. It is still super dumb that the Trump administration is wasting so much time worrying about ultimately insignificant things such as the name of a body of water when there are real issues that need to be addressed.
Trump's actions recently have really been weird. He is doing tasks that seem to be unordinary of what a typical president does. The reason for why he renamed the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America has to be politically driven as there is no other reason for it. Along with this, Trump threatening to not allow the AP reporters to the white house might set a dangerous precedent and start a domino effect of restricting journalism in America. I doubt that it will ever be this extreme but its something to look out for during Trump's presidency.
