The Case Against Hunter Biden

On October 6, 2022 the Washington Post first reported about a “chargeable tax” on a “gun purchase case against Hunter Biden.” This story follows up to reports starting early in the Biden administration regarding accusations of money laundering and tax evasion by Hunter Biden.

Right-wing media groups are raising concerns regarding the deflection of the Hunter Biden stories and the integrity of the Department of Justice. In an interview with Fox News, Republican House Representative, James Comer emphasized that the GOP is concerned that “Hunter may have compromised Joe Biden” and that “the Biden family has been profiting off of his Joe’s name.” Comer made further comments on the US Treasury’s decision to reject his bid to “examine suspicious activity reports… [that] weren’t okayed by Democrats in Congress.” Mainstream right-wing media are using heavy titles while addressing the White House staff such as “damage control” and “cleanup crew” after learning about select White House staff that were payed hundreds of thousands of dollars to deflect Hunter stories.

The prosecution falls into the hands of David Weiss, a U.S. Attorney for the State of Delaware selected by Trump during his presidency. However, Attorney General Merrick Garland made it clear that there would be no political interference in the prosecution and that the case would be solely supervised by Weiss.

In an interview conducted by MSNBC with former US Attorney David Kelley, Kelley stated that “lots of times when there is a leak in an investigation, the person leaking is out in the periphery and the people in the heart of it have more information.” Regardless if this is just a GOP stirrup or Hunter is convicted of any charges, how does it have any correlation to POTUS and his governing of the United States? Is this just another attempt from the GOP to poke holes in the Biden administration? MSNBC columnist Barbara McQuade mentioned, “Just because investigating agents have found evidence they believe is sufficient to file charges does not mean that prosecutors will or should seek an indictment.”

With the polarization of the republican party, it is very hard for people to fully grasp all the accusations that right wing politicians hurl at the left on what seems a constant basis. This makes it very difficult to understand what accusations make sense and which ones are just complete lies. We will have to see what the attorney general for the District of Delaware will choose to do, to charge Hunter Biden or not.
