Summary: Over this weekend, President Trump sent out multiple tweets referencing Russia; however, none of them condemned the Russians for their involvement in the 2016 election. In fact, Trump found a way to “undercut [Robert] Mueller's investigation [on Russia], according to CNN, by tweeting that it was “spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign” that caused the FBI to miss alarming “signals” regarding the Florida school shooter. The fact that President Trump is trying very hard to shine bad light on the Russian investigation and divert the nation away from the findings, is quite perplexing and concerning especially considering that the Russians may have plans to tamper with the 2018 midterm elections as well.
Analysis: I think the problem here, is that President Trump is always trying to prove that there is no “collusion” between him and Russia whenever this issue is spoken about. The investigations only revealed that the Russians tampered with the 2016 elections, not that President Trump asked them to do it. Therefore, I am quite confused as to why President Trump is finding it difficult to openly chide Russia, and firmly let them know the consequence of future meddlings. Is it because so far the Russian individuals and companies have only been indicted and not formally found guilty? Or is it because there is something to hide?
Questions:
- Do you agree with President Trump in thinking that too much time is being spent on the Russian investigation? If so, do you think that the FBI did not investigate enough into the Florida school shooter because of it?
- Do you think that it is ok for President Trump to stay “silent” when it comes to accusing/condemning Russia?

It is really interesting that Trump simply continues to emphasize the "disorder and chaos" that has come as a result of the Russia investigation, but not any of the problems associated with a foreign country (especially a foreign country with the tense history we have with Russia) interfering in what should be a free election. Trump doesn't want the election to be considered anything but totally legitimate because that is the election that got him where he is today. Instead all the blame for the current state of affairs is placed on the FBI, and more generally the Democrats.
Going along with what Sam said about "disorder and chaos"...
In the recent indictment of 13 Russian nationals that attempted and succeeded in interfering with the election, it was cited that their primary function was to disturb public discourse and instill distrust in American Democracy. Based first on our president's remarks when there are actual Russian culprits that are in the process of being extradited, it would seem their tactics have worked. This needs to stop. On the Democrats side, the continued narrative that this is a Trump Administration problem entirely needs to also stop. The indictment made it clear that the alleged perpetrators feigned grass-root support for both pro-Trump and anti-Trump sides, often on the same day or in similar locations.
Everyone made speculations about the outcome of this investigation, but now that the indicment has been issued... why is it so difficult to focus a) on the proceedings with properly punishing these Russian nationals and b) with ensuring this isn't a problem in the upcoming midterms!
If we play the blame game, we leave ourselves vulnerable and we all lose.
I think that no matter what the president does (condemning the Russians or not), he will be criticized as there are always people who will find fault in what he does. However, thus said, I do think that there is a obligatory statement about the Russia incident that must be made that isn't just blaming others. And I find it kinda disturbing that Trump uses the school shooting as a way to divert attention from the investigation and to call out the FBI as the scapegoat. Even if the FBI weren't preoccupied, I don't think that their investigation in the shooter would have prevented the travesty.
