A Reckoning with Women Awaits Trump
Liberal media and many others find Trump to be morally questionable, due to lack of political experience and various other factors. Recently, though, his misogynistic attitude is what many have found most objectionable. Recently, Steve Bannon, former Chief Strategist to Trump, claimed that the Me Too "anti-patriarchy" movement will make Trump the villain. Bannon is far from a feminist, claiming that the movement will "undo ten thousand years of recorded history." However, he sees the tremendous impact and how it will negatively impact Trump, someone who is a known harasser.
I am doubtful that the Me Too movement will really effect Trump. Throughout the 2016 election there was plentiful proof that Trump assaulted, harassed, and disrespected women. He still managed to win over female voters. Additionally, while many politicians and entertainers are being punished for their actions, Trump has remained largely unscathed. It may be wishful thinking that the Me Too movement has enough power to bring down Trump.

Questions:
1. Do you think the Me Too movement will hold Trump accountable in the future?
2. What is your response to this political cartoon?

The cartoon is an interesting visual depiction of something that bothers all Americans at one point or another: accountability, or rather a lack of it. Politicians, especially the president, are notorious for committing controversial and suspicious acts and getting away with little to no investigation and subsequent repercussions (such as Reagan's involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair, Hillary Clinton's acts as Secretary of State, Trump's numerous egregious offenses against women and questionable economic history). And while impeachment is always an option, the House seems too mired in other issues to draft any Articles of Impeachment.
The #MeToo movement held many long-time sex offenders accountable for their actions, but I agree with Ella; it's not going to reach Trump; at least, not now.
Yes, the #MeToo movement has not really gotten to Trump yet, but I believe that it is not the responsibility of the movement to single-handedly dismantle Trump. Trump not being held accountable is the fault of his supporters, not a movement that preaches the opposite. The #MeToo movement has brought more attention to the pervasiveness of the issue of sexual harassment and assault than ever before. It has taken down extremely famous individuals who nobody expected to be guilty of sexual harassment. Most importantly, the movement is a step toward women being unafraid to come forward and complete no tolerance policies for sexual harassment. While the #MeToo movement has not impeached Trump, it has certainly affected the mindset surrounding the issue and maybe changed the minds of some potential voters. Hopefully, by 2020, the movement can rally against him and get him out of office.
That cartoon is interesting. I don't think the #MeToo movement will ever directly reach Trump, but I do think that his dismissal of all sexual harassment claims (except for those against people he doesn't like) will hurt him in 2020 and potentially hurt the republicans in this year's midterms. I am not sure I completely agree with the message of the cartoon. I would argue that Trump was almost the first domino. If you think about it, Trump was one of the first major figures to have these kind of claims made against him and I think that seeing so many women come forward and accuse the President of the United States of sexual harassment encouraged others to come forward with their accusations against other men to reporters.
I agree with this cartoon in that I don’t think that the MeToo movement has fully affected Trump enough to "knock him down" like one of the dominoes and like others who have been completely affected. However, I do think that it has affected him and will continue to hurt him given the several accusations against him. Will raised an interesting point that Trump may have been the cause of the domino effect. I agree in that I don't think it was just one person's accusation that led to another person being accused and "knocked down." Instead, the movement was a huge push of victims openly sharing their stories and having the confidence to do so because of others. Though it isn't possibly for every perpetrator to be punished as they deserved, the movement has been important in bringing the issue of sexual assault into light and enacting change.
