Democrats jeer Trump about 'treason' charge

During President Trump's State of the Union speech back in January, many, if not all Democrats attending decided not to clap during the speech. About a week has gone by since then and Trump has voiced his opinion on the Democrats not clapping, "'Can we call that treason? Why not?'".  He also described the Democrats, "...'they were like death. And un-American. Un-American'". Several Democrats have responded to Trump's comments saying that they actually are patriotic for exercising their First Amendment right, and that he shouldn't expect everyone to blindly be clapping after everything he says.

I can understand both sides of the argument. Naturally we want to act like one strong unified country, with no disagreements or tension between the two parties. However that is not the reality of the situation; the Democrats clearly aren't happy with Trump's presidency and his policies, so why should they show support for someone that they don't agree with. I'm sure when Obama was President, the Republicans didn't show support for him, so I don't know why Trump is calling this an act of treason.

Questions:
1. Do you think that everyone, no matter what political affiliation, should be supporting and encouraging our President?
2. Will this tension between Trump and the Democrats have any affect on Trump's actions as a President?

In general terms, I do not think that everyone should blindly support a President simply for the sake of "supporting the president." This should apply even to the people who belong to the President's party. If the President is advocating, or making false, hurtful, claims, people should voice their opinions against it. However, when it comes to the State of the Union speech, I feel like there were several times where the Democrats could have stood up, but rather chose not to. I feel like they are sometimes still stuck on the outcome of the election. However, the reality is that President Trump will most likely remain president for the next four years. Therefore, I think for the sake of the nation, it would be good if the Democrats in congress could overcome their feelings regarding Trump's win, and focus on creating and supporting policy beneficial to the people.

No, I do not believe that everyone should blindly support what the president does. It is up to us to say express when we are concerned for our country. President Trump is showing that he gets way too emotional to be president. The tension will do nothing real bad to really change everything. Just standard Trump reaction.

I don't believe that everyone should support the President. In the State of the Union, Trump was making claims and advocating for policies that many Democrats don't agree with, so I don't think that they should blindly applaud him if they don't agree with his opinions. I think it is important for our government to be able to work together and feel unified, but I think that differing opinions and debate between government officials is beneficial to our government. I think Trump wants everyone's support and adoration regardless of their political affiliation, but that is unlikely due to his extremist views.

Like the others before me have commented, I don’t believe that Democrats should support Trump simply because he is the president. In fact, there can be some benefit in allowing a portion of the country oppose the president’s policies and views, as it would hold the president accountable for their actions. Furthermore, as I understand it, the practice of members of the president’s opposing party abstaining from applause is a regular feature in events such as State of the Union speeches; it doesn’t make sense to me that attention should be called to it now. To answer the second question, the opposition that many Democrats hold to Trump’s policies and actions will certainly pose a barrier to bipartisanship in government.

I agree with the points made above. Just because you do not agree with something and choose not to applaud something you don't agree with doesn't make that treasonous. I think that it was wrong of President Trump to say that the Democrats who didn't clap for him are treasonous. Whether it was meant to be a joke or not, he shouldn't have said something to that degree on national television offending a huge portion of our country. I think his remarks are even more polarizing instead of what he should be doing, unifying our country as the President of it.
