Urbn Leaf

A girl from San Diego recently sold over 300 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies within hours. What was her
secret? Well, considering the legalization of marijuana in California, she decided to wheel her wagon
right outside Urbn Leaf, a marijuana dispensary in San Diego.
There was a small argument about whether the girl was allowed to sell Girl Scout Cookies in front of
a business. However, the clever girl, knowing she wasn’t allowed to set up a booth in front of the
business, decided that she would walk up and down the sidewalk with her wagon instead. Others
disregarded the Girl Scout rules about selling their delicious cookies and decided that this was
completely disgusting. Girl Scout Cookies are a staple of american childhood, yet here we have a
Girl Scout selling her cookies outside a marijuana dispensary. Disgusting or genius?
We recently read about the Ten Principles of Economics, the first principle talks about efficiency. This
girl clearly demonstrates efficiency as she is receiving the maximum benefits that this dispensary
has to offer by catching the customers coming out of the shop who may be a bit hungry after their
purchase. She is also a great example of the second principle: Rational People Think At the Margin.
This girl is obviously a rational person as she is someone who systematically and purposefully does
her best to achieve her goal by finding loop holes in the rules and by using her common knowledge
to gain an advantage over her competition.
Should she be praised or looked upon with disgust?
How else does this event relate to the Ten Principles of Economics?

She should be praised as she was able to capitalize based on recent certain events. This shows that not only does is she aware of key points in our nation's history, but she is fully capable of taking advantage of that. You go girl.
I think that this girl should be both praised and looked upon with disgust because she is very intelligent (or her parents are) for finding a way around the rules, but she should also be looked upon with disgust because she should be taught about the effects marijuana instead of just taking the benefits from it (like cookie sales). But overall, I believe that it was fine that she was selling outside of Urbn Leaf as she was really just selling near it if she was walking with her wagon up and down the sidewalk. Also, this could also fit in with the principle that “people respond to incentives,” as if you sell more and more cookies you get more and better prizes. So, she chose to sell a lot of cookies in front of Urbn Leaf in order to get more prizes, which is basically the only reason little girls sell cookies.
I praise this girl for her smart tactics, however, she is setting up a bad example for future Girl Scouts. If there's one major success story with this dispensary/Girl Scout cookie relationship, then soon enough, others will start to do the same thing to try to boost their profits. This girl clearly knows her stuff and this does benefit both the seller and the consumer, however, this could potentially lead to a change in the Girl Scout rules and methods of selling.
I think she should be praised for her business tactics. I think it was smart of her to recognize the business opportunity and act on it. Some might think it is inappropriate for the little girl to sell outside a dispensary, but with marijuana becoming legalized in California, I believe that dispensaries are going to become more normalized like liquor stores, so there is no need to freak out about it. She realized the amount of cookies she could sell to this particular market, and took advantage of the situation, and that deserves some praise.
I agree, she should be praised for her savvy business techniques. I think that she found a loophole that payed off significantly. In girl scouts, you are taught to think outside the box, and she clearly did that. I think that she may have started a trend and people will be seeing more girl scouts around pot dispensary's, however, I think that if this becomes a huge trend it may tarnish the girl scout brand.
I think people should praise her for her business tactics. She clearly knows how to run a successful business seeing the relationship between marijuana dispensaries and yummy cookies. With weed being legal, I believe people need to stop looking at dispensaries with such disdain and start looking at them like liquor stores like Kate said. Taking advantage of the situation benefits the seller and the consumer so I believe she deserves praise.
I think the girl should be praised. She did nothing wrong- simply used a law to her advantage to do her job: selling girls scouts cookie. It's not like the cookies themselves held anything related to marijuana, so there shouldn't be a problem. Those girls scouts cookies are still the same old girls scouts cookies. If people are hating on it due to the location they are being sold, then that is their problem. But since it does go against girl scouts rules, I do agree that she shouldn't have done so. Although that doesn't diminish the ingeniousness of her business tactics.
I agree with many of the people here that she should be praised. She may be young and it is a little off putting to see a kid use something like a marijuana dispensary to her advantage, but ultimately I realize that it's a very clever and intelligent way to sell her product. She found out what the best way to sell the most cookies was and by finding this correlation between marijuana and cookies, she's able to effectively sell her product and make profits. By finding loopholes, she may not be the most ethical, but she is very clever and efficient, making her business tactics admirable.
I agree with the comments above, this girl is smart and knows how to market. She shows that she knows how to be efficient, and sell wisely and legally.
I also believe that the girl deserves praise. Although it may be unsettling as she is selling in front of a dispensary, I think she deserves praise. Marijuana is legal and California so she wasn't involving herself in unlawful activity. She also wasn't advertising the cookies as if they contained marijuana. All I see is an intelligent girl who knows the market and who she is selling to. If Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts can sell cookies and popcorn outside grocery stores like Safeway, I have no problem with them selling outside a dispensary.
Wow, she certainly is very business minded in her approach. Congrats to her success in selling cookies.
Haha wow, this girl is meant to be a very successful business woman! She is a pure genius for doing this and it's very clear the sales she made. Honestly, people need to not be so narrow minded and laugh at this. Now more than ever is marijuana being accepted and losing its bad reputation. Potheads are not necessarily bad people, in fact they are some of the coolest people ever. Overall, we shouldn't take EVERYTHING in life too seriously. All I really have to say is good for her.
I think she should be praised for being so knowledgeable as to not setting up a businesses and choosing such a smart place. She's so young and all she's trying to do is sell the highest number of boxes of cookies. She was able to use the location as a way to effectively sell her cookies. At such a young age she already has such advanced business tactics. She found a way to make the most profit, and used it to her advantage. At her age she isn't worried about pot, however just selling the most boxes in order to win the most prizes.
