Trump Puts Pence in Charge of Creating a Coronavirus Response

Due to the ongoing problem of the spread of coronavirus around the world, Trump has put Pence in charge of solving the problem. Although Pence does not have much experience in health policy, Trump believes that he is capable of creating a response that will stop the spread of coronavirus because of his experience as the governor of Indiana. As a former governor, Pence had to deal with healthcare in different ways, including creating his own version of medicaid expansion and handling an HIV outbreak. As the leader of the coronavirus response, he appointed Birx, a State Department official who deals with the response to HIV/AIDS, to provide research on disease and vaccines. Pence has in addition promised that under his plan, “[him and others] will continue to bring the full resources of the federal government… to see to the health and well-being and to the effective response to the coronavirus in the United States of America."

Action must be taken to stop the coronavirus outbreak, as it has already spread to a lot of countries and continues to spread even more. The number of deaths associated with coronavirus continues to rise, so it is necessary to solve the problem before it worsens and kills more people. Furthermore, this outbreak has caused the public to fear their health, so the quicker a solution is reached, the calmer the public can be. I believe that people who know a lot about healthcare should be involved in the coronavirus response, as they could help find a solution for the outbreak quicker.

1. Do you think the coronavirus outbreak will be stopped soon?

2. Was it a good idea to put Pence in charge of the coronavirus response?

3. What else can be done to prevent coronavirus from spreading?

I think the corona virus will remain in the news for the upcoming months to come, for the spreading of the disease has spread all over the world and has increased in countries such as the United States. I believe it was strategic to put Pence in charge of Corona. Not only is Trump following the precedent set by President Obama during the Ebola crisis, but he is also politically strategic. The Corona virus has already shown to be detrimental to stock market. One of Trump's main campaign strategies is emphasizing the growth and strength of the economy. Therefore, if there is a significant economic decline by say November, it is possible that Trump can place the blame on Pence rather than himself.

I don't think coronavirus is showing any signs of stopping soon. It went from only particular parts of China, to a few Asian and European countries, to a worldwide concern. From tech conferences right here in the Bay, to school in Japan, and even the Olympics, events set out as far as the summer are getting cancelled. There is only one (known and contained) case in the Bay Area, and a Bernie Sanders rally in San Jose was almost cancelled because of possible further spread. I do believe that the coronavirus panic (in the US at least) is being hugely fueled by the media, looking to get views from people rather than looking to appropriately inform them. At the same time, I also feel like the staggering number of cases in China is much higher than their government claims it is. As a politician, I think Pence will be good at the job the President wants him to do (make him look good), but in terms of solving the issue as a whole, I'm not sure he's the best man for the job. One of the best ways to prevent the spread to get tested after showing fever-like symptoms, but this can cost a lot for some people, even if they don't have the virus in the first place, and don't even need treatment.

I’m not sure if the coronavirus outbreak will be stopped soon. It’s scary to see that it’s been escalating ever since it started. However, I believe I saw a post with statistics of people cured (or have recovered) from the disease, which is uplifting. But with this, I have heard it has spread to Europe and there are a number of cases now in the US. There are a few cases pretty local to us too. Now, our desks and chairs are supposedly sprayed down every day with some substance to help kill bacteria. I’m glad we are taking precautions to make sure that it doesn’t reach here. I think the big thing about this whole scare is that people are misinformed about the coronavirus. Also, racism towards Asian people is prevalent now, which is saddening.
