With Disney's long awaited launch of its streaming service on November 12th, it seems that the launch has been quite successful with 10 million subscribers signing up Disney+ on the first day alone. With the 500 movies and 7,500 episodes offered on the platform, some are comparing the streaming service to Netflix. However, this is just an accumulation of everything Disney has produced or helped produced in the past with the addition of hot new shows, like the Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The streaming service is currently being offered at a rate of $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year or a cheaper price with some deals. This price also allows 7 accounts to be created on the profile with 4 of those being able to stream at the same time which is more generous compared to other services, like Netflix.
Questions:
Have you signed up for Disney+ or are you considering signing up for it?
Do you think that its price makes it a competitor to other streaming platforms, like Netflix?

Honestly, I have not considered purchasing Disney+ because I feel Netflix has many more options of shows and movies. Disney+ is great for someone who wants to rewatch their childhood shows but the new ones they offer are not too interesting. If some people do want to remember those childhood moments then I think it is a good offer to purchase the plan for maybe a month or two. Its price is definitely lower than Netflix but I do not think it is enough to bring a competitive edge since Netflix always has the top, popular, new shows that many people are up to date on.
I am considering signing up for Disney+ because it greatly reminds me of when I was in elementary school anxiously waiting to go home to watch Disney movies. I don't think the competition between Netflix and Disney+ would cause any dramas since the shows are completely different. With this in mind, I would probably only purchase the monthly subscription since I'm not an avid show watcher.
I probably will not purchase Disney+, but only because I am not an avid Disney fan and my family already has a subscription to Netflix which has the types of shows my whole family enjoys. However, I think this is a really great option for families with young children or people who love Disney in general. I am not surprised with the amount of subscriptions on the first day, as Disney creates extremely popular TV shows and movies. I think that the subscriptions low price will increase the amount of people who subscribe, however, I don’t see it as being a competitor to Netflix, as Netflix gives more options to all age ranges.
The only reason I would purchase Disney+ is to watch any Marvel extras. Also, the thing about Disney+ is that it will only really show a bunch of Disney shows, and while that is quite interesting I feel like all of the series that will be presented will just be rehashing of stories that have been previously told by the companies. There is no binge-ability of any of the series on the site in my opinion.
I have not signed up for Disney+ yet and I don’t think I ever will. I don’t really watch shows anymore so I see no point. I do have Netflix though, which is nice because there is a variety of things to watch. Disney+ seems great, though, because every Disney produced show or movie is on there. I personally haven’t seen every Marvel movie there is so maybe I should get Disney+ to watch all the movies I watched. The monthly price is actually relatively reasonable. To be able to watch whatever you want with only paying $6.99 a month or $69.99 for the whole year seems like a good deal. Netflix rates start at $9/month and can go to $12/month, which is crazy.
I have not signed up for Disney+ plus but I am considering it. There aren't as many Disney movies on Netflix. I think Disney+ will most likely be popular as Netflix. First of all, Disney+ will have widely popular family-friendly content. It will eventually have the fan-favorite film libraries of Pixar, Marvel Studios and Star Wars. When you look at the $7/month price point, that makes it really easy for a family or fan to pick up as a casual service. Even more easy for a family with younger kids. For less than the price of a new DVD, the family can get near endless Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars content. However, Netflix has plenty of original content and the faithful audience. Disney+ will shake things up, but won’t bring Netflix down.
I've been rotating free trials of Disney+ to keep up with the Mandalorian. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd and I've been loving the series so far. I'm considering shelling out the 7 a month once I run out of email addresses, as Disney+ does have an impressive selection of content from all of the different franchises Disney has been acquiring over the past few decades, as well as their original films.
As an Office and Parks and Rec fan, I wouldn’t even consider buying Disney+ unless Disney somehow managed to buy NBCUniversal. I reckon that most Office fans lean towards Netflix over Disney too. Overall, I’m curious to see the future of Disney, which has an 80% stake in ESPN and majority-owns Hulu btw.
I personally have not signed up for Disney+, but I have two relatively younger brothers than me and even though we are still in gen Z I feel as if their shows and the new Disney is so much different then the Disney we had watched and I would want my brothers to see all the classic movies that we had watched and gotten excited about. While DIsney+ may seem exciting for maybe a month or two beyond that there seems to be no use since there is not much of a variety and one would only really get it to relive their childhood by watching many of the original movies and t.v shows. In terms of price, I think it's completely reasonable and much better than some other streaming places, especially since Disney+ has also been offering deals with another streaming service (Hulu and ESPN+) so you would be able to get a variety of shows from all three apps for $13/month which is about the same price that Netflix offers for four users on an account.
Personally I don't like Disney+ for the sole purpose that I have to pay for another streaming service membership and that some Disney movies and shows were taken off Netflix. However, I will most likely cave in and purchase a membership or steal off someone else. Disney+ is definitely a competitor with Netflix and other services because so many people enjoy Disney shows and movies and shows like the Mandalorian are trending. Disney made a smart business move by creating Disney+ and I don't find it falling any time soon.
When I first saw that Disney+ was coming out, I didn't really even consider signing up for it. I think it's partially that I have a lot of the Disney movies on DVD already and partially because paying for another subscription service when I already have Netflix seems kind of excessive. I really like Disney, but I don't know if I would want to pay for something like Disney+. It seems like a lot of the other commenters express that view as well, so I don't think that Disney+ is going to become a big competitor for other streaming companies like Netflix or even Hulu (and I wouldn't pay for Hulu either). While I think Disney made a smart marketing choice and Disney+ would be nice to have, it doesn't offer the same large variety that Netflix does, so I don't think it's going to surpass Netflix. I'll still probably do a free trial for Disney+ and maybe end up using a friend's account, but I wouldn't pay for my own subscription.
