House Republicans Fined for Violating Security Rules

The aftermath of the attacks on Capitol Hill seems to be receiving a lot of controversy between members of Congress. Two Republican Congressmen, Andrew Clyde and Louie Gohmert, were fined for $5,000 because they did not follow the new security measures that were installed in Capitol Hill. While Clyde hasn't spoken publicly about his situation, Gohmert states that he only left the House to go to the bathroom, and did not go through the metal detectors, causing him to be fined.

Gohmert notes that "they made it sound like I avoided the metal detectors", claiming that he was accused of doing something he did not intentionally do. He then adds that he plans to appeal the fine and "take them to court because this is unconstitutional".

This is not the only situation involving controversy over security measures at Capitol Hill. Previously, after the attacks on Capitol Hill, new metal detectors were installed in order to tighten up on security, but certain Republican members of Congress, such as Mullin and Biggs, outright refused to comply with the security measures.

It seems odd to resist the new safety measure emplaced at the capital after the Capital Hill attacks. Gohmert who has been a member of congress since 2005 would resist the change as he prefered the old method. Also I would expect that congressional members being in the Capital during the attacks, would strength support for measure. Oh well. I understand that Clyde is a new member of congress which makes it even weird. As this is all he has every known. I mean why resist change if you only know the change.
