Leading up to Biden’s inauguration day on Jan 20th, concerns about violent protesters lashing out across the country and at the US Capitol has increased. With the previous attacks on our Capitol Building taking place just a week ago, government officials are now taking things much more seriously and have begun to prepare for the threats.
To ensure the safety of those participating in the inauguration along with the citizens of Washington DC, the National Guard has been deployed and have set up a perimeter around the Capitol. However, on the day of the inauguration there will be additional parameters being set up around the National Guard, consisting of Capitol Police and Military Police. On top of this, the National Mall, a previous viewing point for the inauguration, has also been fenced off to protect the public. Another preventative measure being taken is by the TSA, who have been examining the footage of the riots at the capitol from last week, and putting people they see as threats on the no fly list. Airlines are also tightening restrictions on firearms being boarded on flights.
State Governments are now also preparing for attacks on their own State Capitols before inauguration day. Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, has authorized the deployment of 1,000 of our National Guard to surround the Capitol Building in Sacramento from potential rioters. Many other state governments have begun to follow suit.
Inauguration day in the USA has in the past been a day of celebration, when the powers of the Presidency are peacefully passed on to the next person. However, with all of the misinformation and lies spread out on social media and by our President, the inauguration no longer seems to be about celebration.
Do you think the security measures will prevent violence at the inauguration?
Will inauguration day ever return to being celebrated?

While I think the security at the Capitol during the attempted insurrection was laughable, the amount of security they're deploying for the inauguration is overkill. These extra measures seem like a show of force more than a preventative measure; the insurrectionists couldn't have gotten in if the security at the time didn't sit idly. The fact that armed insurgents could easily waltz their way into the building lead to national embarrassment, and our government wants to reverse that image of weakness. America has built itself to be a beacon of military strength on the global stage, but the storming of the capital proved to be the antithesis of that. Losing momentum as the top global power, the US is scrambling to salvage its image through brute force. I also don't think any more insurrectionists would storm the Capitol even if the security remained the same. They've received outrage from the public and many of them are facing steep crimes. I don't think many of them knew that people would die in the process.
I think that increasing capital security for the inauguration is a great idea. I also hope that some of this security stays after the inauguration. I really hope that assault by trump supports caused a rework in the defense of the capital. It needs to have a strong defense force to stop similar events from happing. Also I like that TSA is taking step to reduce the violence.
