Trump complicates his effort to build warmer Russia ties.

Trump responds to Russia election meddling
In a complete surprise, President Trump once again goes off his script during an economic summit with Putin in Da Nang.  This comes as a response to Moscow’s own investigation about the allegations of supposed Russian intervention in the 2016 presidential election.  Trump has come out to call these investigations as one of the reasons why the relation-building with Russia has been slowing down recently.  Putin denies any claims of election meddling and seems frustrated with the whole issue.  The American people has had enough.  In a CNN poll, “about two-thirds (64%) now say the investigation into Russian efforts to influence the US presidential election in 2016 is a serious matter that should be fully investigated,” compared to 60% in the past (Liptak).  What do you guys think about the Russian investigation?  Do you think it may be compromised by Putin? What do you think the poll suggests about the American people?

I don't think the Russian investigation will be compromised by Putin, and I think it is an important investigation that must be had - I mean, if you think about it, it's quite ridiculous. A major world power, who has historically stood opposed to us for many many decades, and continues to have rough relations with us, "may" have influenced our elections to change a candidate. I use quotations around may because there is already evidence of meddling on social media with Russian bots, so they clearly have done some influencing, however the extent to which (and the collusion of which) still stands to be explained or proven. The only problem, however, is that even if Trump and/or his campaign/coworkers are proven to have colluded, it may not affect his base very much, as they idolize him and do not trust anything that slanders him in any way. As such, even if Mueller's investigation reveals some pretty damning evidence against Trump, it may do nothing to deter his base. It may, however, be enough to remove him from office without deterring his base, so we shall see. It will be interesting (and important) to see the conclusion to the investigation.

I do not know if I believe that it was the Russian government who was meddling in our election, but I think that it is important that the United States government is investigating possible Russian meddling in the election. However, it is surprising that there are also investigations about the meddling happening in Moscow. This could either mean that the Russian government truly believes that Putin and no other government officials were involved in possible meddling, or they are trying to confuse the American government and public. If the latter is the case, Russians are hoping to conceal the fact that they are guilty of meddling in the election by confusing Americans to why they would initiate an investigation if they were guilty of meddling. But, if either were true, I do believe that either Putin initiated the Moscow investigation or he supported the Moscow investigation.
I believe that there is a rise in desire for the investigation because of all the recent news stories about people in the Trump campaign and the Tramp administration having ties to Russia, which is gaining suspicion among the American public.
